A Randomized Controlled Trial of Hydroxychloroquine as Prophylaxis for COVID-19 among Health Care Providers

Background: Although there is a growing consensus that hydroxychloroquine may not be effective in the treatment of COVID-19 patients, still little high-quality evidence about prophylactic effects this medication. In study, we aimed to evaluate efficiency preventing infection among healthcare workers. Methods: clinical trial, 90 providers from two referral hospitals were divided into group (400 mg/week for eight weeks) and routine-care group. Serum CRP levels frequency T-helper (CD4+ cells) T-cytotoxic (CD8+ assessed at beginning end study. The groups compared terms White Blood cells (WBCs), polymorph nuclear (PMNs), lymphocytes (LYM), hemoglobin (Hb), platelets (Plt.).
